Pulwama and domestic Indian politics

  No political Adventurism please!

On February 14,2019 the CRPF convoy consisting of 2547 personnel and 78 vehicles came under attack at Lethpora, near Awantipora on Jammu-Srinagar highway. The incident has brought shock and then anger throughout the country. All political parties including the main opposition Congress has come united to stand in solidarity with the government of India on the issue. The attack has certainly hurt the conscience of every Indian and a subsequent outrage is visible and obvious. But this terror incident inevitably has swung the political discourse and especially the political narratives of domestic politics here in India which largely swelled-up during almost five years of Modi regime around developmental and other soco-political and socio-economic issues. These narratives some how grew in an unpleasantly manner and were sort of haunting the central government at a time when the nation is to vote in a near two months time to elect the new repersentatives for the 17th Lok Sabha. The polarization of regional parties and escalating round of charges of corruption against the Modi led NDA, by Congress and specifically against the prime minister himself targeting him individually are  significantly been expected to damage BJP's electoral ambitions. At the moment, after this most devastating terror attacks in more than a decades time, now these issues relating to development and alleged corruption has shifted to the hindsight. Indian people are hating Pakistan at the moment more than anything else they do.!Such a situation can easily polarize masses irrespective of caste, region, language or for that matter even religious identity or any such identity, under one umbrella by newly developed sense of nationalism and a competitiveness among indians to show their patriotism, which in turn can alter easily the existing electoral demographics and voting patterns. As a by-product an "illusion" can possibly be then created  by orchestering a "war-like," situation or a surgical strike 2.0 . Around the political alternatives, it can be argued that either Bjp will regain and remain in power after the upcoming general election or it loses and any of these possiblities will become a reality only and if election is happening in scheduled time. If the hate prevalent now persuades the government to take strong military action against Pakistan may lead to other political situation domestically here in India. In the first place two neighbouring nuclear powers will be facing-off each other in a more or less "state of warfare." Such a situation may put us in reconsidering of schedule for general election, alarmed by a national emergency situation grown up because of external and internal security reasons. The time that it will take in settling things down here in India is not expected to go smooth. A delay in elections will mean  delay in formation of  the new government. Such a situation shall not be considered a healthy option for preserving the spirit of constitutionalism. Who will imagine of a war followed by post-poning of general election or  president's  rule for atleast six months time? This circumstantial hate also has quickly affected communal issues here in India, be it targeting of kashmiris or any other form. Amidst this communal tension rising here in india, government should think out of a more prudent tactics to deal with pakistan or with terrorism,   which  shouldn't further harm our objectives of protecting the best constitutional practises and of which one will be conducting general election in scheduled time. Not solely guided by superficial or popular momentary nationalist agenda but protecting each citizen of India, protecting our constitution and every inch of its territory India holds as it's sovereign and integral part, its time to give a befitting reply to terrorism.
