"Ganga Warrior"..a true son of Maa Ganga..Prof .G.D.Agarwal....

He never claimed that "maa Ganga ne mujhe bulaya hai," he did it as his responsibility as a true son.Six times,in six years,2008,2009,2010,2012,2013 and 2018; a fast-unto-death led him to what doctors at Aiims Rishikesh reported, a cardiac arrest.A patient of Coronary artery disease but a man of extraordinary courage,will-power,and commitment Ganga protection activist,Ex-IIT Prof and first member secretary of Central Pollution Control Board, Prof G.D.Agarwal(sant Gyan swaroop Sanand at matari sadan ashram) breathed his last at the age of 87 at Aiims Rishikesh. With the news of his demise,a sense of loss was immediately felt across the country. But his death has raiesd serious questions about the will-power of the Govt.of India to actually acheive what it calls"Aviral and Nirmal Ganga".We remember popular slogan by prime minister when he declared his candidature from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat"maa Ganga ne mujhe bulaya hai."According to media reports Prof Agarwal was very much upset with the Union water resource management minister Nitin Gadkari's  response which came on Wednesday as a notification, and said,'it seems he is only concerned about his Inland water projects, and there is no scientific basis which assures protection and revival of Ganga in it's full course.'He was fighting for 'Ganga protection Act' and demanded scrapping of all proposed and under-construction hydropower projects and sand mining from the river bed.Prof.Agarwal died at a time when IPCC at UNGA warned all nations to take appropriate action to conserve and protect environment and all Eco-systems to protect Earth, since we are at a stage that either 'it's now or never.'
